More than 80 Seattle-area middle and high school students gathered for an unforgettable day of hands-on learning, aerospace exploration, and STEM discovery at iUrban Teen’s recent iSpace event. Through an exclusive partnership with Blue Origin and Club for the Future, students and families had the unique opportunity to engage directly with aerospace professionals while participating in interactive workshops designed to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators.
The event was made possible through the generous support of 4Culture, Blue Origin & Club for the Future, and community partners including NASA, SPEEA, and the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club. Together, these organizations helped create an immersive experience that connected students to real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Students were divided into middle school and high school learning tracks, each offering age-appropriate challenges that encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork.
Middle school students explored the fundamentals of aerospace engineering through hands-on activities that included building and modifying balsa wood airplanes to achieve greater flight distances, creating lunar lander crafts, and designing and launching straw rockets with Blue Origin. As students tested and refined their designs, they experienced the engineering process firsthand—learning that innovation often comes through experimentation and perseverance.
High school students participated in more advanced aerospace-focused workshops led by Blue Origin and the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club. They tackled a lunar lander engineering challenge, explored the impact of space radiation and the risks associated with human spaceflight, and learned about career pathways in aerospace engineering from industry and aviation professionals. These sessions provided students with valuable insight into both the technical challenges and exciting opportunities within the aerospace sector.
The event also featured a special Parent Roundtable facilitated by iUrban Teen and Blue Origin. Parents worked together on an engineering challenge of their own, designing and building a 6- to 12-inch card tower strong enough to support an airplane. The activity sparked conversations about problem-solving, teamwork, and the importance of supporting students as they pursue educational and career opportunities in STEM fields.
One of the highlights of the day was watching students engage directly with professionals who are helping shape the future of aerospace and space exploration. Through meaningful conversations, hands-on projects, and career-focused discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of the possibilities available to them and the skills needed to succeed in STEM careers.
The iSpace event showcased the power of collaboration between industry, community organizations, and families in creating transformative educational experiences. By exposing students to aerospace concepts and connecting them with mentors and role models, the event helped build confidence, spark curiosity, and broaden awareness of future career opportunities.
