iUrban Teen Recognizes Donna Hammond as the 2026 Compass Award Recipient. She is a Skill trades Workforce Strategist, born and raised in Portland, OR, and a long-time advisory council member for iUT.
In 2018, she helped launch the first iTrades summit, which has since provided countless opportunities and experience to our students. As a student herself, Donna push through many obstacles such as racism and sexism, being one of the only black girls in her school. She never let that stop her, and trusting her intellect and courage as she climbs the ladder of hardship! These lessons became her foundation, and she continued to break barriers year after year. In 1978, she joined the IBEW Local 48 apprenticeship and became one of the first black women electricians. She later Co-founded the Oregon Trades women and served as a business representative and office for IBEW. Today, she lives in Vancouver, Washington and continues to share her workforce wisdom. Her legacy is an absolute light for the black community, and her story is proof that no mountain is too high. She believes that opportunity grows when we lift as we climb. Today, let’s lift Donna up as we celebrate her contributions and success!
